Anyone who has been to Savoy knows about the huge queues that tend to build up there for the weekend movies. Usually I book my tickets online but this time my computer AND printer AND router were busted (thank you freaky weather and SLT) so Lady Janusis and I decided to give it a shot and stand in the queue and hope for the best. When we got there the queue was already pretty long, but the parking lot guy told us that the queue was for the Sinhalese movie playing there while we had come for the Jet Li movie (White Snake). He also suggested that we could jump the queue since none of the people were there to watch that movie. But hey, I am not that stupid. I am not jumping a queue with a mile of rabid movie-goers behind me.
So we ended up standing in the queue and that’s when the fun started. The queue was way past the parking lot by this time, but the weird thing was that with all the cars leaving and coming into the lot, the queue went THROUGH the parking lot and back on to the road. Imagine a slightly drunk snake with hiccups and you can imagine this queue. It went around cars and between cars, and when ever a car backed out everyone would start jumping around to avoid being run over. We had to keep hitting the back of vehicles to make sure they didn’t run over some kid or old lady. (Some of those drivers were pretty aggressive I tell you). Basically it was some pretty crazy stuff.
By the time we got out of the parking lot queue and on to the road queue, there was some guy trying to crawl up my ass. Seriously, I could feel him thrusting at me and wiggling. Sometime his arm was over my shoulder resting on the wall, and sometimes his man-boobs were on my back. I tried not to move too much to avoid the rubbing. Eh, I don’t get why people do this, I mean its not like I can move any faster just because he is man-bumping me. And HIS wife was standing so close to Lady J, that she kept stomping on her trouser legs. And every time that woman scratched herself, she would get her hand caught in Lady J’s scarf. It was such a wonderful relief to finally get the tickets and get out of the damned queue. I felt like I needed a bath, or to file a sexual abuse case, or eat ice cream (ice cream is a cure-all btw).
Either way the movie was crap, but I had fun anyway. After all, only part of the fun of going to a movie hall is the story line, the rest is good company and junk food. 🙂
Watched the new Underworld at the Majestic City cinema hall over the weekend, and man do they really need to stop making movies after the first 3 sequels. Well one of those three was a prequel, but anyway, there comes a time when you have flogged the horse and its dead and you need to stop hitting the poor bugger.
The first two movies were pretty awesome. I was thrilled when they first came out. Gutsy, bloody vampires and a heroine that actually looks like she can kick ass instead of just pouting and sparkling in the sunlight. But now the story is too stretched. It has no more meat left in it. Leave it alone. Leave us with those precious memories of awesomeness.
If you are going for the movie be advised that its pretty bloody.
As usual every weekend, I spend Saturday nights and Sundays watching as many movies as I can. Its fun and it helps me relax. These are some of what I have been watching:
I bought the camera copy as soon as it came out cos I simply had to watch it! As usual, when you are dying to see something, it usually does not meet your expectations, like Fantastic Four for instance. Ghost Rider is good. Its got great graphics, some nice cinematography and an interesting dichotomic hero. But I felt Cage was not the right person to play the Rider. He is just not.. skull-y enough. But he was funny, while making faces in the mirror. The fight scenes were not drawn out enough, and left you wishing for more. The character should have been a bit more evil like in the comic. I am going to buy the movie, but solely cos of the graphics.
This movie I watched twice. It is simply fabulous to watch two magicians compete, putting everything on the line to pull off the most memorable tricks and take revenge on the other. The movie’s strength is its plot and its no frills portrayal of the two magicians. The earthy colours and the raw emotions of the characters make the movie quite real..
I loved this movie. I think i liked it better than Dreamgirls. The music is awesome, especially ‘clocks’, the dancing is brilliant and the cinematography is almost breathtaking. The plot may be a bit weak, but the movie borders on brilliant without quite getting there. There is such potential in it. I like Andre3000’s voice, and I like how they picture him in his little attic with his piano. If you like musicals and hiphop, you should watch this.
Salaam e Ishq
Typical of all Hindi movies, with nothing much to speak about. It seems to be a morphed version of Love Actually. The only saving grace of the movie was the newly wed couple trying desperately to consummate their marriage!
Last year wasn’t a very good one for movies, with several several disappointments. Hopefully, this year will be better.
